Sharon Miller Ashley
MRS North Carolina 2008
My success story starts at the age of 16 while I was a Sophomore in High School. I became emancipated from foster care and became an instant guardian to my younger brother. I knew I have become an adult. After high school I went into Cosmetology. But later on I knew that being a Cosmetologist wasn’t really in my heart. Soon after, I started working with Lancôme Cosmetics as a Counter Manager and a Make-up Artist. This is what I wanted to do.A few years later, I met my husband Wayne. I met Wayne while he was investigating an accident. A year later Wayne and I married. Then soon we decided to start a family together and had our son, Devin Michael.Being a mother meant so much to me. But also felt like there was something missing. I had always wanted to better educate myself with more on the Anatomy of skin. So I chose to go back to school. I became an Esthetician and also a Nail Technician. The moral of my story is you don’t have to be a Doctor, a Lawyer or even be a famous person to become successful in life. Successful to me is how you make your life. I believed and had faith in myself to become someone in life. My husband and I have been through a few obstacles. But we turned those obstacles into teaching tools to raise a dependable and hard working young man. This is my success story of who I am and what I have become in life.I do feel that I have became what “Today’s Women” is really about. I didn’t ever give up and persevered through the obstacles.
